Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Lakeshow?

Lakeshow was founded as high school AAU basketball program, in 2005. We recently started offering the program to the elementary and middle school students (2nd through 8th graders), and the program took off quickly.

Lakeshow is a 501C3 non profit designed to help youth basketball players achieve success on the court and in the classroom. We’re proud to have helped 200+ student-athletes earn college scholarships for basketball or academics.

Q: Where is Lakeshow located?

Lakeshow has 2 main locations: Oakland and Danville. Open Gym Premier is our home in Oakland,  providing 4 NBA-size regulation courts. Full time security in a gated parking structure is provided. Inside the facility we also have office space for students to grab a snack before practice.

For the Danville program we practice at the San Ramon Valley Methodist Church (902 Danville Blvd Alamo), and at surrounding elementary and middle schools (Los Cerros, Charlotte Wood, and others).

Q: When are practices?

Oakland: OGP (Open Gym Premier). Lakeshow is the exclusive tenant of OGP 3-9pm every Monday to Friday.

Each team practices 2x a week for 90mins each at Open Gym Premier for Oakland teams.

Q: When are the seasons?

The Spring 2025 season runs from Feb 1 until July 21, around 24 weeks. We then rest for 7-10 day start right back up again with Fall tryouts in August.

If you’d like to get started before Fall tryouts, we recommend signing up for a camp or a clinic, all of which are open to the public.

Q: How much does it cost for a season, and how many games and practices are in that fee?

The cost for the Spring season is $2250. That amount covers the following:

  • 2 practices a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays). 90 minutes each at Open Gym Premier in Oakland.

  • 2-3 weekend tournaments a month, often 3-4 games each tournament

  • Top-notch coaches working on individual and team skills

  • Gear: Lakeshow jerseys, compression shirts, etc

Q: What are the age groups?

For the Spring in Oakland, Lakeshow will field teams in 4th through 12th grade. In Danville the program runs for players in 2nd through 5th grade.

Q: Do you have teams for ladies?

We do. We have currently have 10 teams of Lakeshow Ladies, 9U-15U, making us one of the largest Girls programs in Northern California only 6 months after launching the program.

Q: Who coaches the teams?

We’re proud of Lakeshow’s experienced, dynamic group of coaches who’ve played at every level: high school, college, and professionally. Some are even Lakeshow alums!

Q: Do the teams travel? Are travel costs part of the $2250 season fee?

During the Spring we travel to Vegas in July. Travel costs are on each family but we provide a hotel booking with a program rate.

Q: Are players allowed to play on 2 AAU teams?

No multiple AAU teams are allowed due to the demand of Lakeshow roster spots. We do however encourage multiple sports or CYO/school sports.

Q: What type of tournaments does Lakeshow play in?

As a partner of Open Gym Premier, we play in Grassroots Tournaments which are 4-game guarantees (2 Saturday & 2 Sunday). They provide D1-D3 competition which caters to our entire program.

In Danville we play in State2State (2 Saturday games) & Hoop Community. Both provide the right level competition.
